A huge advantage to any organization is that Annette’s personal choice of work ranges from many junior to many senior level. Whatever the role whatever the task she will do with passion and commitment, never trying to grandstand her past roles. Drawing on her wide experience she will suggest changes and ideas within the bounds of what may be possible but being a very pragmatic and realistic person she knows that one can always float ideas, but she is there to get a particular job done.
Annette has a proven ability to take ideas from concept to delivery in a timely and focused way. She is well versed at working closely with vendors and technologists to ensure the appropriate solutions are obtained to meet the short and long-term goals of the organization or business area.
She has vast depth and breadth of working experiences that can be applied to design, delivery, strategy, technology direction, team structures and much more.
Experience that brings insight
After completing University Annette began her IT career as a Programmer in Computer Graphics. Soon after she moved to London contracting in Applications Development and Project Management to a wide range of business and industry types, such as The Patent Office, Her Majesties Inspectorate of Pollution and Sea Containers. These applications were complex and challenging. For example, Annette was the only analyst programmer and project manager for the application she developed for Lloyds Register of Shipping (this application was written up in New Scientist magazine)
She then moved into investment banking working for JP Morgan on the development, architecture and support of complex trading systems; then onto Lehman Brothers where she earned a Director level role responsible for all European wide Fixed Income & Bond Trading, Global Funding and Global Repo Systems. She successfully managed the development and support teams for real-time, high volume front office trading and risk systems. She designed and managed the development; roll out; support; & BCP of these systems into Europe, Japan and New York.
As a Director at Lehman she was responsible to deliver directly to the trading floor requirements and business objectives, defining the solution and staffing her teams to meet the business aims, within budget, while never risking the business from a support or BCP perspective. She had to ensure that her staff were well qualified and dedicated, regularly being expected to work very long hours to deliver solutions that had not been achieved elsewhere. Innovation, pilot & prototype initiatives, and being ahead of the technology suppliers, were also the norm. This experience is now a trait that Annette has carried forward with her to every future role, whether large or small.
Annette was later approached by Rabobank International for the role of Director, Global Head of IT (excluded Equity Brokerage). She then quickly moved up to Managing Director, Global Systems, with her role being the only IT member of the Global Executive Team. From within Rabobanks 120 independent country operations, the over 30 Investment Banking operations were re-structured under a new global structure headquartered in London. Being the first IT executive hired into this new structure, Annette had to assemble (from a zero base) global and regional IT teams encompassing implementation specialists; analysts; financial specialists; developers; Quality Assurance, Testing and Project Offices.
Reporting to the new head of the bank, her role encompassed defining the IT Strategy and Direction, aligned to the Bank’s 3 Year Business Plan for these independent countries. Annette developed and began the deployment of a global systems solution strategy to enable the business to meet its short and long-term objectives. Winning board approval she successfully deployed new systems spanning 3 continents, on time and within budget.
She was responsible for the evaluation and analysis of business initiatives; preparation of board level investment proposals; initiation, application and deployment of systems architectures; management of overall budgets for global systems and implementations; hardware and software supplier selection; contract negotiation; and business aligned global IT planning.
Upon returning to Australia Annette worked for EDS primarily on the Commonweath Bank Account. She was initially hired as a Trusted Advisor and Thought Leader to bring in her senior and global experience to CBA Institutional banking (IB), and to provide a link to the EDS Global Financial Industry Groups’ work on global bids. Within a month she also took on the role of General Manager for Institutional Banking, with P&L responsibility for an Annual Revenue of 65 Million USD. She managed the Account Team of 6 and service team of 3 to achieve account growth, sales targets and service excellence. She transitioned an application team of 200+ from the account team to the EDS Solution Centre and was the Client Relationship Manager to the head of the CBA IB Unit, direct reports and key CBA IT staff.
To further utilise Annette’s skills and experience Annette took over the role of Chief Technology Officer, with a direct budget of 2.6 Million. The EDS CTO, which was a joint CTO with the CBA focused on Architecture Management; Technology Planning & Direction (to Enterprise level);Security; Audit & Compliance; Privacy; BCP; ISO; Governance & Quality. She had to deliver the contractual obligations to CBA including innovation white papers; strategy and direction for architecture and technology; an annual critical systems assessment rating 200+ key applications by Technical Quality vs Business Quality and then against cost. This assessment was then used to assess any new project against whether it improves the system by one or more of these factors.
After successfully working with the CBA CTO to ensure the delivery of a CBA 5 year IT&T strategy (aligned with the business areas directions and needs) Annette was then asked to take on the role of
Chief Technologist for the Sydney Solution Centre (SySC). SySC was an applications support and development site with 600+ staff primarily supporting CBA. Her directive was to join the centre for a year to set a technical direction and strategy for the centre going forward, including a training plan to move the technical staff into a place whereby CBA would want to use their knowledge for future systems, not just in maintenance of existing ones.
After EDS, Annette has done the following Consulting roles; taken a maternity break; and primarily worked on short or part time projects. She has learnt the Adobe CS4 Web Design, Creation and Flash products as a personal interest and created some high-end web sites.
Annette next took on the role of the OMX Project Director for a $20 million project with a difficult history to replace the OMX legacy Bonds and Securities trading system at the Sydney Futures Exchange (SFE), Annette was the Relationship Manager between the development team in Sweden, the local third party software supplier and OMX development and support teams in Australia.
Following this Annette consulted to Newcastle Permanent to provide senior Program Management on their cards programs for the introduction of EMV chip cards and ATM direct charging, both having locked in delivery dates. She represented Newcastle Permanent at all VISA committees and meetings. Additionally her experience in Program Management and Project Office structures was sought to provide advice on how to mature their Project Management team and Project Office.
